The roof has to be done in two stages, doing the back half first. This side of the roof needs to be reinforced, adding new supports inside the attic and cutting off …

I have a love hate relationship with peel and stick membrane roof systems..I love the pros like you already mention but I hate chasing leaks .With paper you can usually trace the water to the cause of a leak but I have found with the membrane the water will usually travel until it finds a penetration like a chimney or vent and leaves you guessing as to the real cause.I do use them when the home owner will spring for them.
Interesting roof reinforcement.Cool video as always.I was kind of hoping to compare what our two money takers require.it has gotten completely out hand on my end..I am guessing soffit vents all the way around.Always good to be done with a roof.
So happy I found your channel. Thanks for taking the time to do this vid.
You get a lot done in short while wow. I would be dead from working that hard and I couldn't do it. It looks nice.
You are a great teacher John. You do things right too without spending gobs of cash. I like this old school approach. 🙂
You've got a lot of work to do there. Maybe you need to hire some help. Thanks for your videos. I like everyone of them that I've seen.
I love your other channel. I just started to watch this one and feel for you having to haul all those shingles up the latter a few at a time. Great work though!
i have renovated a lot of homes and done a lot of roofs but have never seen the solution you came up with for adding depth to the rafters. really like it, low cost, not very labor intensive. i can dig it.
Excellent Job so far. I watched all your home improvement series during this weekend and really enjoyed them (as much as your main channel). Is it the sunburn or exhaustion that gives the impression of your face being red?
Cheers,
Ali
Funny how things were a lot easier twenty five to thirty years ago. Nice job.
Did my garage with synthetic paper, it can be exposed for months, also a leaf blower is nicer than a broom up there.
You got to use some sun protection, John. You look as red as a tomato! Look out for your skin, parthner.
Great video. Thank you.
Great job John, I don't know how you keep up the pace!
Sure is interesting to see how a roof is done in a different country. Completely different to here!
Good stuff John, but this is why they leave that for the green horn's to run 😉
Whenever I get to the point of a new roof, it's getting steel. Shingles are so amazingly tedious and metal roofs look great and last 50 years.
That looked back breaking John. Hats off!
Hi, shingles aren't very often in my country so I wonder how long they last?
More videos from this channel!! Very inspiring.
Thank God for brothers! Thanks for the progress report. Singling was never my favorite. Too old for that now.
Lovely tidy work. Thanks for showing us this.
Best Wishes, Brendan.
you are one hard working individual. Looks good.
Nice Job, building out the overhangs like that does so much for a house….looks great! Seems to be a big resurgence of craftsmen style homes in my area. Big overhangs, batten strips, and fairly elaborate exterior trim outs. i'm a big fan of that look.
I reroofed my house 14 years ago. I stripped it all myself, replaced a porch roof, and installed a steel panel roofing system. I won't have to replace the steel in my lifetime and it only cost $1000 more than shingles. I will have to replace the gaskets at the ridge cap, but that's small beans compared to doing a roof.
Very ambitious for one guy. Is 1/4" overhang code where you are? In KY we do a 1" overhang all the way around to prevent water from wicking between the shingles and drip edge.
Hmm, are you keeping the chimney or tearing it down? I recall that you ripped out the old furnace, but don't recall if you replaced it with a direct vent unit, or are still using the flue.
Still enjoying watching all this unfold!
Unbelievable amount of work you got done there. I roofed my 12×14 shed a few years ago and said i'd never do another roof job again. Props to you! Excellent job. I wish I had half as much energy.
Thanks for putting the video together, impressive work on the roof and a good record of the project progress. Thumbs up as always.
the ice and dam is great stuff!
Lot of hard work. Try one of the specialty shovels next time. It goes faster with one of those.
John you are a HAAS!!!If I lived near you I'd help knock out some of that work.Great job!!
I have actually done some roofing, and I have to say props to you. Roofing is a lousy job! Glad you at least got some help on Day 2….
Looks like exhausting, back-breaking work.
Truly amazing John. I know how much work goes into a roof, and I appreciate you showing us along the way…yet another part that adds time…showing us.
Looks back breaking. Good job
Looks good John.. I have done a few roofs with my grandfather when I was younger… it is hard work!
Good going John. What a nice brother you've got! Mine would've been six hours late, in a chair, and offering many "helpful tips." 😉
New video from my other channel.
Yay!

Man. What a job. God bless your brother for his helping hands. It's hard to believe that you are doing this work mostly with just your own two hands. That stairwell was off the chart, but that whole roof? wow. I am amazed. You really truly inspire me. Thank you so much for sharing. Honestly, I mostly view makeup channels, but I love handymen and you are certainly all that. bye now.
Good job, well done. I always underestimate the time required for any job. Each job will all get done eventually so don't worry.
man your a hard worker.
it would have been nice to show more closely how exactly you mount the shingles
One dislike? why? idiots…
Good video, thanks for sharing all of that, appreciate it! 🙂
