  1. I've got an honest question. Why can't brand new shingles be nailed in directly over the top of existing old shingles? In your case, you had rotted wood that you had to replace as well as replacing shingles. Can't a person just nail a new layer of shingles right over the old? I have zero roofing experience, so I was just curious. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  2. Hey you did a good job. Osb is just fine. you get these guys calling down your work becuase you didn't roof their way are usually amateurs themselves. They've never really ripped more than 100 roofs and noticed the important patterns. I personally wouldn't have put down paper myself also if i did this job.

  3. This comment is for the guy in the video , I've been roofing for 22 years , and been a licensed contractor for 15 years , anyway
about the bad comments , those bad comments usually come from people that don't understand the minimum specifications of the trade , when I was sitting in a classroom to pass the state test , I learn about the minimum requirement by the roofing industry , NOT by some idiots trying to re invent the wheel .
the only thing I would point is , you didn't use felt under the shingles, BUT…that's not a problem , I come across roof that don't have any felt AT ALL over the entire roof and they never have a water leak.
So …if you place the nails where they supposed to be , you don't have to worry .
About the plywood sheathing …it doesn't make any sense to upgrade to CDX , when the entire house is built with OSB.
I'm a professional roofers and I come across many CLOWNS that will never be up to my level of knowledge and they still think they can teach the roofer how to roof .
    It's funny but true.
You did wonderful and keep uploading your videos and hope you master the trade some day .
    I like your video !
    Greetings .

  4. Informative ,, Thanks .
Just wondered though ,, why you didn't put a piece of
tar paper over the wood before putting the shingles on ?

  5. OSB is NOT better for sheathing roofs. OSB nail holding ability is very poor.
if you get a leak, OSB rots out extremely fast, as well as swelling up up to 2x it's original thickness.
OSB is the worst product for your roof. I've been doing re-roofing for 15 years and I can tell you what is a better product for your roof.
